Way back in old Ireland in the County Mayo It's the name of the place that I left long ago I hit for the road and sure that's what I did I was known as the guy called the Long Distance Kid I went off to England, to look for a job I was weeks on the road, I was broke to a bob Tired and weary with no place to go So I hit for George Wimpey in a place called Hounslow I went up to the agent me story to tell They'll pay you subsistence and bonus as well Go back to the ganger and do as your bid For I can tell by gymp your a Long Distance Kid I went up to the office to look for the sub Because I was broke with no beer and no grub Now they said it's ten bob and for more it's a quid A fiver to Paddy, the Long Distance Kid I went in to Cricklewood one fine Friday night I met up with this quare one she was out for the night Now she says it's ten bob and for more it's a quid A fiver from Paddy the Long Distance Kid Now the summer is gone and the winter draws near I spent all me money on women and beer I'll pack my old case and back home I will go Far away from George Wimpey to my home in Mayo Too-ra-loo, too-ra-lay I'm going home to Belmullet in the County Mayo |
