Way back in old Ireland in the County Mayo
It's the name of the place that I left long ago
I hit for the road and sure that's what I did
I was known as the guy called the Long Distance Kid

I went off to England, to look for a job
I was weeks on the road, I was broke to a bob
Tired and weary with no place to go
So I hit for George Wimpey in a place called Hounslow

I went up to the agent me story to tell
They'll pay you subsistence and bonus as well
Go back to the ganger and do as your bid
For I can tell by gymp your a Long Distance Kid

I went up to the office to look for the sub
Because I was broke with no beer and no grub
Now they said it's ten bob and for more it's a quid
A fiver to Paddy, the Long Distance Kid

I went in to Cricklewood one fine Friday night
I met up with this quare one she was out for the night
Now she says it's ten bob and for more it's a quid
A fiver from Paddy the Long Distance Kid

Now the summer is gone and the winter draws near
I spent all me money on women and beer
I'll pack my old case and back home I will go
Far away from George Wimpey to my home in Mayo
Too-ra-loo, too-ra-lay
I'm going home to Belmullet in the County Mayo
